“Spring into Summer” All School Performance 2008

We will be performing this years School Tour of "Peter & The Wolf" during this Matinee performance dedicated to the CD and Pre-Ballet Classes.

Dear Creative Movement, Parent/Toddler & Pre-Ballet Parents and Dancers,

This year, Southwest Washington Dance Center wants to make the Spring Performance experience easier for our young students and their families. Because of some concerns that were expressed in previous years, we will have the youngest dancers in their own special performance. Including "CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS" , the entire performance should last about an hour.

You have some special instructions, so please read the details below!
(Especially the RULES: about dancers coming back out to the audience to watch
"CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS")

ATTENDANCE:

Your attendance in class from now until the concert is vital. The teachers and students have worked very hard on their choreography. When you miss class it is difficult for everyone else to learn their piece. Please consider your commitment to your dance class as important as other activities. If you think that you have 100% attendance or are close to it, please let me know so I can confirm it or tell you how many make-ups you need to have 100% attendance. Make-ups need to be completed by the end of May.

PERFORMANCE FEE:

All participants must pay a $10.00 performance fee. This fee helps defray our costs for renting the facility and other costs of putting on the spring performance. Please pay fee as soon as possible, if not already paid.

COSTUMES:

As you are now aware, we have ordered costumes for some classes. Costumes you purchase are, of course, yours to keep. Balance due slips have been handed out. COSTUMES NEED TO BE PAID IN FULL BY MAY 1st.
If you need to make arrangements for payment, please contact me. No child will be left out of the performance for financial reasons. If you wear tights as part of your costume, YOU will be expected to have proper tights without holes or runs.
PLEASE DO NOT WEAR UNDERWEAR. IT SHOWS!.
You are also expected to have proper shoes in good condition. If you want to order tights, let me know by the end of May. This order will be for items needed for recital only.

HAIR, MAKE-UP ETC.:

DANCERS ARE TO HAVE THEIR HAIR & MAKE-UP DONE BEFORE COMING TO THE THEATRE!
Make-up should be light, especially for young children.
NO RED LIPSTICK OR BRIGHT BLUE EYESHADOW.
Glitter is not allowed unless your teacher has approved it.
Hair must be worn up in a tight bun for all ballet and creative dance students unless you have been told otherwise. Please no corn-row braids. A hair net over your bun will help hold it in place. If your hair is short, slick it back with hair gel. Modern, rhythmic gymnastics and jazz dancers hair will be styled at the discretion of the teacher.

PHOTOS & VIDEOS:

We have a professional photographer, Photography by Robin, coming to take individual and group photos. Individual photos are optional, but we request that all dancers be in the group photos. You may wear costumes for the individual photos. Please plan your pose ahead of time so that not too much time is taken with each dancer. Photo envelopes are available at the studio.
Sign up NOW, at the Dance Center for a time for your individual photo to be taken. We are aware that this is the last day of school for some districts. Photo times will be adjusted for this fact.
The performances will also be videotaped.
NO VIDEOS OR FLASH PHOTOS CAN BE TAKEN DURING THE PERFORMANCES.
If you wish to take photos or videotape your child, this must be done at the dress/tech rehearsal on Friday, June 16.

VOLUNTEERS:

We will need volunteers to help with intermission refreshments, flower and gift shop sales, box office, backstage moms, tech crew and ushers. Sign-up sheets ARE NOW POSTED, so be thinking about how you would like to help. We will also need cookies for intermission refreshments.

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

We will be performing in Corbet Theatre at Centralia College. As we are guests in this facility, we need to follow some very strict guidelines regarding food and drink. The only drink allowed will be water. Please bring your own closed water container. You can refill it at the drinking fountain. Water is allowed in the dressing rooms but not the theatre or on the stage. We cannot allow food at all in the theatre or dressing rooms. Make sure your child eats before coming to rehearsal or performance. For those dancers who will be at rehearsal all day, they can have food if it is eaten outside or in the main hallway. While this may seen very extreme, it is important that we be good guests. This is a fabulous facility and we want to be invited back.

RULES:

Children will stay backstage during the performance. They can watch the other dances during the dress rehearsal at the studio on June 14th, June 16th or at the theatre on June 20. We will have parent helpers working backstage, so your child will be well supervised. We will show videos and you can send quiet activities for your child to do. All the dancers have worked very hard and it is distracting and upsetting when people leave the auditorium during a performance. When all dance pieces are completed, the dancers will be brought into the audience to watch a wonderful short production of "CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS", danced by the 2008 SWDC School Tour Performers!

If you have any questions that we did not answer, please feel free to speak to Marcia or call the studio between the hours of 2:00-7:00 pm.
